High cholesterol
High cholesterol has no symptoms you can feel — but it quietly raises your risk of heart attack and stroke. A simple blood test shows where you stand, and there's a lot we can do about it.

High cholesterol means there are too many fatty substances (lipids) in your blood — a major but very treatable risk factor for heart attack and stroke.
It isn't an illness you notice day to day — most people feel completely well. That's exactly why it matters to check: knowing your numbers, alongside your other risks, lets us build a plan to protect your heart and circulation before any harm is done.
Symptoms of high cholesterol.
The most important thing to know about cholesterol is that it usually causes no symptoms at all.
Why it happens.
Several things can push your cholesterol up — often more than one at the same time.
Don't wait for it to settle.
Early assessment helps you get the right treatment sooner. See a specialist if:

Diagnosed with a simple blood test, read alongside your overall risk.
Dr Hina Parvez will take your history, ask about family heart disease and your lifestyle, and arrange a lipid blood test to measure your cholesterol. Your numbers are never read in isolation — she'll weigh them against your other risks, such as blood pressure, weight and smoking, to build a clear picture. If an inherited cause is suspected, she can refer you on to a specialist.
Blood tests at the clinic →How high cholesterol is treated.
How we treat high cholesterol depends on your level and your overall heart risk — not on the number alone.
For many people, changes to what you eat, moving more, cutting back on alcohol and stopping smoking can make a real difference to your levels.
A consultation with Dr Hina Parvez to go through your results, your heart risk and the right next steps for you.
Where your overall risk is high enough, Dr Hina Parvez can prescribe and adjust cholesterol-lowering medication, then monitor how you respond.
Repeat blood tests to track your progress over time, with referral to a specialist if an inherited cause is suspected.

How much does it cost to check my cholesterol? +
A 30-minute GP consultation with Dr Hina Parvez is £100, or £120 for a longer 45-minute appointment. The lipid blood test itself is charged separately and we'll explain the cost before you go ahead. If you have major UK insurance, we can often bill your insurer directly.
Can I discuss my results online? +
Yes. If you already have recent cholesterol results, or want to talk through your risk and options, an online video consultation is available for £80 — handy if travelling to Rossett isn't easy for you.
Do I need to be registered or have a referral? +
No. You don't need to register or bring a referral — you can book directly with us as a private patient. If an inherited cause of high cholesterol is suspected, Dr Hina Parvez can refer you on to a specialist.
What happens if my cholesterol is high? +
We never look at the number alone. Dr Hina Parvez reads it alongside your overall heart risk, then agrees a plan with you — that may be diet and lifestyle changes, medication where your risk warrants it, and follow-up blood tests to track how you're doing.
Don't put up with it.
