What is weight management?

Weight management is medically supported help to reach and maintain a healthier weight — starting with an honest look at what's actually making it hard for you, not just willpower.

Carrying excess weight is rarely about effort alone — hormones, sleep, stress, life stage and even some medicines can all push against you. The good news is that once we understand what's contributing in your case, we can build a plan around it. This isn't a quick fix or a one-size-fits-all programme; it's proper medical support with regular review.

01Symptoms

Symptoms of weight management.

Weight management isn't a condition with symptoms — but carrying excess weight can affect you in several ways that are worth taking seriously.

01Breathlessness & low energyGetting out of breath on stairs or hills, feeling tired through the day, or sleeping poorly with snoring or disturbed sleep.
02Joint & back painExtra load on the knees, hips and lower back can cause aching that builds over time and limits what you can do.
03Low mood & confidenceWeight can weigh on how you feel about yourself — and that, in turn, can make healthy changes harder to sustain.
04Raised health markersExcess weight is linked to higher blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, which often cause nothing you can feel until they're checked.

02Causes & risk factors

Why it happens.

Weight is shaped by far more than diet and activity alone — which is exactly why a medical look can help. Common contributors include:

Diet and activity patterns
Hormonal factors (an under-active thyroid, PCOS)
Some prescribed medicines
Poor or broken sleep
Stress and life pressures
Life stage and genetics
03When to get it checked

Don't wait for it to settle.

Early assessment helps you get the right treatment sooner. See a specialist if:

I.You're struggling despite real effortIf you've genuinely tried and the weight won't shift, it's worth checking whether something else is working against you.
II.Your weight is affecting your healthBreathlessness, joint pain, poor sleep, or weight that's making another condition harder to manage are all good reasons to get support.
III.You want a medical check before you startA look at contributing factors such as thyroid, blood sugar and cholesterol gives you a clear picture before you put effort in.

04How it's diagnosed

A proper look at what's making it hard for you.

Dr Hina Parvez, our private GP, takes a full history and listens to what you've already tried. She'll take measurements such as your BMI and waist, and arrange blood tests where they're helpful — to check for contributing factors like an under-active thyroid, blood sugar and cholesterol. The aim is a clear picture of what's going on, so any plan is built around your situation rather than guesswork.

What does weight management cost? +

There's no fixed package price — it's arranged around what you need. A standard GP consultation with Dr Hina Parvez is £100, and any blood tests, treatment or follow-up are discussed and their cost confirmed with you individually, so you always know where you stand.

Can I be seen online? +

Yes. Dr Hina Parvez offers consultations online across the UK as well as in person at Rossett. Some parts, such as in-person measurements, are best done at the clinic, and she'll let you know what suits your situation.

Will you check why I'm struggling to lose weight? +

That's the starting point. Dr Hina Parvez takes a full history, measurements such as BMI and waist, and arranges blood tests where helpful to look for contributing factors like an under-active thyroid, blood sugar and cholesterol — so the plan fits your situation.

Do I need a referral or to be registered? +

No referral or NHS registration is needed — you can book directly. If specialist care ever turns out to be the right step, such as a discussion about weight-loss surgery, Dr Hina Parvez can write a referral letter for you; the clinic itself doesn't perform that surgery.
