Vitamin B12 (hydroxocobalamin) supports healthy red blood cells, nerve function and energy metabolism. People with low levels often notice tiredness, low mood, pins and needles or a foggy head, and an intramuscular injection raises B12 faster than oral supplements alone.

At Bridge House Clinic a nurse administers the injection into the upper arm muscle, so you can drop in, have it done and carry on with your day. The £45 fee covers the appointment and the injection. If you are uncertain whether B12 is the right choice for your symptoms, our private GP service can review you first.

01How it's done
B12 injectionA single intramuscular dose of vitamin B12 (hydroxocobalamin) given into the upper arm by one of our nurses. Suitable as a one-off top-up or as part of a planned course if you have an ongoing deficiency.
Price£45
Course of 3 injections (3 months apart)Three intramuscular B12 injections, one every 3 months, for people with an ongoing deficiency who need repeated top-ups rather than a single dose. Paid upfront for the course.
Price£130

Your clinician will confirm the most suitable method at your appointment.

02How to prepare
1
Bring any recent B12 results

If a previous blood test showed your B12 was low, or a doctor has advised regular injections, share that so the nurse can confirm B12 is appropriate for you.

2
Eat and drink as usual

There is no fasting and no special preparation for this injection, so keep to your normal day before you arrive.

3
Leave the upper arm accessible

The injection goes into the shoulder muscle, so a short-sleeved top or one with sleeves that roll up easily makes it quicker.

04What happens on the day
1
Brief check with the nurse

Your nurse confirms your history, any past B12 results and whether you have had reactions to previous injections, then answers any questions.

2
The injection

The hydroxocobalamin is drawn up and given into your upper arm muscle. It takes only a moment and most people feel little more than a brief sting.

3
Straight back to your day

There is no recovery period to sit out. You can drive and return to work or errands immediately; the arm may feel mildly tender for a short while.

01244 982032
How much does a B12 injection cost? +

A single B12 injection is £45, which covers the nurse appointment and the dose itself. This price is confirmed before you book.

Do I need a referral or letter to come for B12? +

No. You can book directly with the clinic. It helps if you bring any recent B12 blood result, but a referral is not required.

Will one injection be enough, or do I need a course? +

That depends on the cause of your low B12. A one-off top-up suits some people, while an ongoing deficiency may need repeated doses. Your nurse can talk through what is sensible for you.

Should I have a blood test before my B12 injection? +

If you have not had your B12 checked recently, knowing your level helps confirm an injection is the right step. We offer private blood tests and a GP review if you would like to be assessed first.

Does the injection hurt? +

Most people describe only a brief sting as the injection goes into the shoulder muscle, with perhaps some mild tenderness in the arm afterwards that settles quickly.
