Grommet Insertion near Chester & Wrexham
A short ENT day procedure to place tiny ventilation tubes in the eardrum, easing the blocked, muffled hearing of persistent glue ear in children and adults.

Grommets are small ventilation tubes set into the eardrum to let air circulate behind it and drain the trapped fluid that causes glue ear. At Bridge House Clinic in Rossett, the procedure is carried out by our consultant ENT surgeon, usually under local anaesthetic and taking around 45 minutes.
It is most often considered when fluid behind the eardrum has lingered for months, dulling hearing or contributing to repeated ear infections. Below you will find our confirmed fees, how to prepare, and exactly what happens on the day.
Your clinician will confirm the most suitable method at your appointment.
If an audiogram or tympanogram has confirmed glue ear, bring the report so the consultant can match treatment to the degree of fluid and hearing change.
An active ear infection or heavy head cold can delay the procedure, so let us know beforehand if symptoms flare up in the days before your slot.
Because a local anaesthetic is used you can travel home unaided, but a calmer, supervised trip is best when the patient is a child.
Why have grommets fitted at Bridge House

The consultant inspects the eardrum, confirms that fluid is present and explains the procedure before you agree to go ahead.
Under local anaesthetic a small incision is made in the eardrum and the trapped fluid is gently suctioned away.
The ventilation tube is seated in the opening, where it holds the eardrum aerated and lets any further fluid drain.
After a short rest you go home the same afternoon with guidance on keeping the ear dry and what to expect as hearing settles.
The condition behind grommets
Grommets are most commonly fitted to treat glue ear, where sticky fluid builds up behind the eardrum and dulls hearing. If you are not yet sure whether grommets are the right step, read more about the condition first.
