Coil Fitting & Removal (IUS / Hormonal Coil) in Rossett
Private coil fitting or removal by a consultant gynaecologist in Rossett — the hormonal coil (IUS) for contraception, heavy periods or HRT, or a copper coil. £200, the coil itself charged separately.

A coil is a small T-shaped device placed in the womb. The hormonal coil (an intrauterine system, or IUS) slowly releases a progestogen hormone; it's one of the most reliable forms of contraception, often makes periods much lighter, and can provide the progestogen part of HRT.
The copper coil (IUD) contains no hormones. At Bridge House Clinic in Rossett, Mr Mohamed Mehasseb, a consultant gynaecologist, fits and removes coils — so the person placing it is a specialist who also treats heavy periods, fibroids and menopause symptoms. The £200 fee covers the procedure; the coil itself is charged separately, and we'll confirm how it's supplied and its cost before you come in.
Your clinician will confirm the most suitable method at your appointment.
Use reliable contraception or avoid sex from your last period until the fitting; a pregnancy test may be done on the day.
Ibuprofen or paracetamol about an hour before the appointment can ease cramping.
A light meal beforehand helps reduce the chance of feeling faint.
Most people go back to normal activities, but you may prefer to take it easy if you have period-like cramps.
Why have your coil fitted at Bridge House

Mr Mehasseb checks your medical history, explains the options and answers your questions before you consent.
An internal examination checks the size and position of the womb, then a speculum is inserted, as for a smear test.
The coil is passed through the cervix into the womb. This takes a few minutes and can cause cramping.
The threads are trimmed so they sit high in the vagina. You'll be shown how to check them and told what to look out for.
A treatment for heavy periods, too
The hormonal coil is one of the most effective treatments for heavy menstrual bleeding. Read more about what causes heavy periods and the other options.

After a short discussion and an internal examination, a speculum is inserted to see the cervix. The coil is folded into a thin tube, passed through the cervix into the womb and released. The threads are then trimmed. The fitting itself usually takes only a few minutes.
Does having a coil fitted hurt? +
Most people feel cramping, like strong period pain, during the fitting and for a few hours afterwards. It varies from person to person. Taking a painkiller an hour beforehand helps; tell Mr Mehasseb if you're anxious or have found examinations painful in the past.
Can a coil be fitted during my period? +
Yes. A coil can be fitted at any point in your cycle as long as you can't be pregnant, and some people find it slightly easier during a period.
How long does the hormonal coil last? +
Depending on the type, a hormonal coil lasts between three and eight years for contraception; copper coils last five to ten years. If it's being used for HRT, the recommended time may be shorter. Mr Mehasseb will tell you when yours should be changed.
Will the hormonal coil stop my periods or cause side effects? +
Many people find their periods become much lighter, and some stop altogether. Irregular spotting is common in the first few months. Because the hormone dose is low and acts mainly in the womb, side effects such as acne, breast tenderness or mood changes are less common than with hormonal pills, though some people do notice them.
How much does coil fitting cost? +
Coil fitting or removal is £200. The coil itself isn't included — we'll confirm how it's supplied and the cost before your appointment. If a pregnancy test is needed on the day, it's £25.
