What does a gynaecologist do? +
A gynaecologist is a doctor who specialises in the female reproductive system — the womb, ovaries, cervix and vulva. That covers problems such as heavy or painful periods, pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, abnormal smear results and menopause symptoms, as well as procedures like smear tests, coil fitting and biopsies.
How much does it cost to see a private gynaecologist? +
A consultation with Mr Mehasseb is £200, and a follow-up is £150. A cervical smear or coil fitting or removal is £200 each, endometrial and vulval biopsies are £350 (histology extra) and a cervical polypectomy is £400. Colposcopy fees are confirmed at your consultation.
Can I see a gynaecologist without a GP referral? +
Yes — you can book directly with us. If your GP has written a letter or you have previous results, bring them along, as they help the consultant build the full picture.
What happens at a gynaecology appointment? +
Mr Mehasseb starts by talking through your symptoms, periods, contraception and medical history. If an examination would help, he explains what it involves and asks for your consent first, and you can stop at any point. You leave knowing what he thinks is going on and what the next step is.
Do you see women with endometriosis? +
Yes. Mr Mehasseb assesses suspected and diagnosed endometriosis and adenomyosis, discusses the options for managing pain and heavy bleeding, and talks through whether surgery is worth considering.
Can I have a chaperone? +
Yes. You can ask for a chaperone for any intimate examination when you book or when you arrive, and you're welcome to decline one too. A friend or relative can also come in with you.
