Group classes suit some people, but if you would rather ask your questions without an audience, or want sessions arranged around you rather than a fixed timetable, one-to-one preparation makes more sense. Rebecca Williams is a qualified midwife who has worked across NHS settings, most recently in community midwifery. Her sessions cover labour, pain relief, feeding and newborn care at your own pace, with your birth partner alongside you.

Rebecca sees you at our clinic in Rossett (LL12 0HE), off the A483 from Chester, where parking is free; the hypnobirthing course can also be done online.

What are antenatal classes? +

Antenatal classes help you and your birth partner prepare for labour, birth and caring for a newborn. Ours are one-to-one sessions with a midwife rather than a group: Rebecca covers the stages of labour, pain relief, birth options and interventions, feeding, newborn care, safe sleep and the early postnatal weeks, leaving plenty of time for your own questions.

When should I start antenatal classes? +

Antenatal classes usually start when you are around 8 to 10 weeks from your due date — roughly 30 to 32 weeks of pregnancy — or earlier if you are expecting twins. Our antenatal education runs over two weeks, so it's worth booking a little ahead of when you'd like to begin.

What is hypnobirthing? +

Hypnobirthing is a way of preparing for birth that uses breathing, relaxation and visualisation techniques to help you feel calmer and more in control during labour. It isn't about being hypnotised — you stay fully aware throughout — and it can support you whatever kind of birth you have, including if you choose pain relief.

When should I start hypnobirthing? +

The techniques get easier with practice, so it helps to start early enough to rehearse them for a few weeks before your due date. Rebecca's course runs as four weekly sessions, which is worth allowing for when you book.

Does hypnobirthing work? +

Hypnobirthing can't promise a particular kind of birth. What it aims to give you is an understanding of labour, practical tools for staying calm and comfortable, and the confidence to make informed choices, whatever your birth looks like on the day.

Can my birth partner come? +

Yes. The sessions are designed for you and your birth partner, and how your partner can support you during labour is part of both the antenatal education and the hypnobirthing course.
