Shoulder Pain
Aching, stiffness or pain in the shoulder that limits everyday movement — what it is, why it happens, and how we can help.

Shoulder pain is discomfort in or around the shoulder joint that can make everyday movements — reaching, lifting or sleeping on that side — difficult.
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which is part of why it's prone to pain. When discomfort persists or keeps coming back, it's worth having it assessed — chronic shoulder pain is often very manageable, and we start with the least invasive option that suits you.
Symptoms of shoulder pain.
They can build up gradually or follow a strain — and often feel worse at night or when reaching overhead.
Why it happens.
Shoulder pain has many causes, and often more than one is involved. Pinning down the source is the first step towards the right treatment.
Don't wait for it to settle.
Early assessment helps you get the right treatment sooner. See a specialist if:

Assessed by a consultant.
Chronic shoulder pain is diagnosed clinically — Dr Mohamed Khafaga, Consultant in Anaesthesia & Pain Management, takes a full history and examines the shoulder to identify the source of your pain and rule out other causes. From there he can talk you through the options that fit your case.
How shoulder pain is treated.
We start with the least invasive option that's likely to work for you, and we show our published prices upfront.
A full assessment with Dr Khafaga to identify the cause of your shoulder pain and agree a plan. Where appropriate, he can assess and treat in the same visit.
A targeted injection can calm inflammation and ease pain — often a helpful, non-surgical next step when simpler measures aren't enough.
A short diagnostic step to confirm whether radiofrequency treatment is likely to help your shoulder before proceeding.
For suitable patients, radiofrequency targets the nerves carrying the pain signal, offering longer-lasting relief.

Will my shoulder pain go away on its own? +
Some short-lived shoulder pain settles with rest. But pain that persists for more than a few weeks, or keeps returning, usually benefits from assessment so the cause can be identified and treated.
Do I need a scan for shoulder pain? +
Chronic shoulder pain is diagnosed clinically — through a careful history and examination. Dr Khafaga will advise if any further investigation is needed in your case.
Can I be assessed and treated in the same visit? +
Often, yes. Where it's clinically appropriate, Dr Khafaga can assess your shoulder and carry out an injection in the same appointment. You'd pay for both the consultation and the procedure — we show our published prices upfront, and the fee for an injection is confirmed individually.
How soon can I be seen? +
We aim to offer appointments the same or next week, so you're not left waiting months for an answer.
