What is a sports massage? +
A sports massage concentrates on the muscles you use most in training or in a physical job. The therapist combines stretching with firm, targeted strokes to loosen tight areas and help muscles recover after exercise. You don't have to be an athlete to book one.
What is a deep tissue massage? +
Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and the tissue around it. It's often chosen for stubborn tension in the back, neck and shoulders. Harmelie adjusts the pressure as she goes, so tell her if it feels like too much.
Does a deep tissue or sports massage hurt? +
It can feel intense on tight spots, and some people are a little sore for a day or two afterwards, much like after exercise. It shouldn't be sharply painful — your therapist will check in with you throughout.
How often should I have a massage? +
There's no fixed rule. Some people book after a hard training block or when tension builds, others every few weeks. If you'd like regular sessions, a course of three 60-minute acupressure massages is £150.
What is manual lymphatic drainage? +
It's a very gentle massage using light, rhythmic strokes in the direction lymph flows, intended to reduce puffiness and fluid build-up. It feels quite different from a deep massage — calm and light rather than firm.
Is massage the same as physiotherapy? +
No. Our massage therapists offer massage for tension, recovery and relaxation; they don't diagnose injuries. If you have pain from a specific injury, our chartered physiotherapists can assess and treat it.
